The Student Health Center is staffed by a team of providers who are physicians, psychiatrists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.  They are committed providing excellent health care to UNC Charlotte students.


Robert L. Jones, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Robert Jones is a graduate of Creighton University and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Jones completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System and a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at San Jose Medical Center/Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Jones currently serves on the faculty of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Carolinas Medical Center, where he has served as Director of Residency Recruitment and continues to serve as Coordinator of Sports Medicine. Renita Eason, MD

Associate Medical Director

Dr. Renita Eason attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a bachelor's degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. She then completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. Her residency training occurred in Charlotte at Carolinas Medical Center where she specialized in Family Medicine. She joined the staff at UNC Charlotte Student Health Center in August 2009.

Karen H. Blackwelder, PA-C

Physician Assistant

Karen Blackwelder completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1994, receiving a Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a concentration in Neurobiology and Behavior. Karen attended Emory University School of Medicine Physician Assistant program in Atlanta, GA, where she received a Master's of Medical Science and Physician Assistant certification in 1998. She worked for five years in family practice in Belmont, NC prior to joining UNC Charlotte Student Health Services. Karen specializes in family medicine and women's health issues.

Lisa Corn, FNP-C

Nurse Practitioner

Lisa Corn has been a registered nurse for 25 years. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree from  UNC Chapel Hill in 1996 and became a certified family nurse practitioner at that time.  She has worked in the Charlotte area since 1998. Her experience includes family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and urgent care. She joined the staff at the student health center in January 2012.

Saidat Kashimawo Akande, MD

Psychiatrist

Dr. Saidat Kashimawo Akande completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at City College of City University.  She then attended the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and graduated in 1993.  She completed her Psychiatry Residency and Chief Residency in Psychiatry in New York at Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Kashimawo worked at Carolinas Healthcare Behavioral Health as an Adult Psychiatrist for 18 years before joining the team at the UNC Charlotte Student Health Center in April 2016.

Carolyn Mahony Talluri, PA-C

Physician Assistant

Carolyn Mahony completed her undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University in 1996 with a Bachelor's of Science in Pre-Professional Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She then attended Emory University School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program in Atlanta, GA and received a Master's of Medical Science and Physician Assistant Certification in 2001. She worked for three years in internal medicine prior to joining the UNC Charlotte Student Health Center in 2005.

Stacey Martin, MD

Physician

Aiko McGlynn, DO

Staff Psychiatrist

Dr. Aiko McGlynn completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Florida receiving dual Bachelor of Science degrees in both Microbiology and Nutrition. She then completed medical school at Nova South Eastern University in Davie, Florida. Her residency training occurred at Medical University of South Carolina where she specialized in General Psychiatry. She has worked for 4 years with Carolinas Healthcare Behavioral Health as an Adult Psychiatrist prior to joining UNC Charlotte Student Health Center in April 2016.

Dr. Shastra Solomon is a native New Yorker and completed her undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut in 1987 receiving a bachelor's degree and Honors in Chemistry. Kisha Young, MD

Physician

Dr. Kisha Young completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Florida A&M University in 2002 and graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville  in 2006. She completed her residency in Family Medicine in Charlotte at Carolinas Medical Center with a focus on Urban Health in 2009.  Dr. Young worked with the Novant Medical Group for 4 years before joining the team at the UNC Charlotte Student Health Center in 2013.

Jessica Crull FNP-BC

Nurse Practitioner

Jessica Crull completed her undergraduate degrees at North Carolina State University and Miami-Dade College. After working as a registered nurse in the Charlotte area for 6 years, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to obtain her graduate degree as a nurse practitioner. Jessica has worked in the family practice, assisted living, and urgent care settings prior to joining the UNC Charlotte Student Health Center in September of 2017.
