New Claims Process for Student Health Insurance

Beginning in the Fall 2010 semester, the Student Health Center will no longer accept reimbursement checks for students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan. The SHC will continue to file claims to the student insurance company, however students will be required to pay for their services at the time of the visit or they may forward the charge to their student account.  After a claim has been filed and processed, the student insurance company will mail reimbursement checks directly to students and they will be responsible for applying payments to their student account.

Steps for the new claims process

  • Student visits the SHC and incurs charges.
  • Student is given the opportunity to pay at the time of service or forward the charge to his or her student account.   Payment can be made by cash, check or credit/debit card.
  • SHC will file the insurance claim.  The student is responsible for providing the student insurance company with any additional information that the insurance company requests.
  • The insurance company will mail reimbursement checks directly to the student.  The student is responsible for applying payments to his or her student account.
  • Students are to contact the Student Insurance company, Chartis (formerly Pearce & Pearce), regarding when payments will be mailed and other reimbursement questions.   Phone 888‑722‑1668.
