About the Student Health
Center
The UNC Charlotte Student Health
Center provides primary medical care, disease prevention, health education,
wellness promotion, and various specialty services to all registered* UNC
Charlotte students.
There is no charge to see a physician, physician
assistant, nurse practitioner, physical therapist, or health educator; this
service is included in the student health fee, which is paid at the same time as
your tuition. For students not enrolled in the University student health
insurance plan, there are charges for x-rays, pharmacy, laboratory tests, and
specialty clinics, such as orthopedic and gynecology. Charges may be paid by
cash or check at the time of your visit or charged to your tuition account.
For those students enrolled in the University student health insurance plan, all
claims will be filed for you by the Student Health Center.
*
Registered is defined as enrollment in the current semester, or,
if seeking services in-between semesters, enrollment in the next scheduled
semester and having been enrolled in the preceding semester. Students not
enrolled in the current semester but who meet the eligibility requirements
stated above must pay the student health fee for the current semester.

Confidentiality of Medical Records (HIPAA)
The Student Health Center recognizes the right of privacy of each individual for which it holds
secure all protected health information (PHI) and because of this acknowledgement, the
health center upholds the strictest interpretation of all laws regulating the
unauthorized disclosure of any and all protected information maintained by it,
except as regulated by Federal and North Carolina law. Under the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, all persons
presenting for medical care at Student Health Services will be asked to sign a statement
indicating their consent for treatment and acknowledging receipt of the
Notice of
Privacy Practices.pdf. Information from a student's medical records can only be
shared with a third party if the student submits an
Authorization For Release of Medical Information. For additional information on the privacy of your
